What is "Didactic Cafe?"
I took on the challenge this year to "Starbucks My Room" and attempt to apply the elements of design that create a feel of a coffeehouse, and the types of instruction that mirror the reasons why college students go to a coffeehouse to study. You are a part of an experiment to see if the Coffeehouse Class helps you to engage more, think deeper, and create freely.
But why "Didactic Cafe?"
Interesting fact 1: Lehrmann is German, and translates "teacher man" or, sometimes, "didactic man." I guess I was destined to teach, huh?
Interesting fact 2: Didactic has several meanings, some are flattering, some are not. I chose to used didactic because of this meaning, from Merriam-Webster:
1a : designed or intended to teach
b : intended to convey instruction and information as well as pleasure and entertainment<didactic poetry>
2: making moral observations
I want us to have fun, and enjoy learning. I want us to be challenged in ways that stretch our thoughts and concepts appropriately, and develop a fuller understanding of who we each are, individually and as we relate to our groups. And with the subject matter of sociology, psychology, and debate, I want us to learn to think about how our actions affect others.
Our goals for these classes are:

Our goals for these classes are:
- To learn how to argue with facts, logic, appropriate emotion and integrity; and without name-calling or abuse.
- To learn how to positively interact with each other, and make an impact for good on our society.
- To learn to understand and appreciate the diverse and intricate personalities that we each possess.
- Take a look at the video below that explains the room concept a little more, with perspectives from a college student and a coffeehouse manager.
